HighLevel Updates: New Features for January 12-16, 2026

Event triggers for AI agents, marketplace app versioning, wider consent auditing, group SMS attachments, and a faster chat widget.

The middle week of January 2026 leaned into automation reliability. Triggers got more precise, AI agents learned to fire on real events, and the app marketplace gained version control. Here is what shipped between January 12 and January 16, 2026, and why it matters for agencies and small businesses. The full month sits in our January 2026 HighLevel updates roundup.

Opportunity Triggers Fire on Real Changes

The Opportunity Changed trigger used to behave like a filter. Setting Assigned To equal to a rep meant the workflow ran on every edit to that rep's opportunities, including notes and tags. Two new operators, Has Changed and Has Changed To, let you watch a single field and ignore the rest. Assigned To, In Pipeline, and Status support them, Lost Reason gains an Equals option, and custom checkbox, radio, dropdown, and date fields are covered. Custom date fields work here for the first time.

That means fewer accidental sends and cleaner reporting on handoffs and renewal dates. Existing workflows keep the old Equals behavior, so nothing breaks. Autosave also reached the workflow AI Builder: switch it on in global settings and every AI generated build and edit saves in the background.

AI Agents Run Without Being Called

Agent Studio shifts from a manually invoked, API driven system to an event driven one. Agents can now start on a form submission, on a contact tag being added or removed, or on an inbound chat message, with no external integration required. Form triggers map fields to workflow variables automatically and can be rehearsed with a simulated submission. Tag triggers allow inline tag creation, and the chat trigger needs zero configuration.

That turns an agent into an always on responder: a lead who submits a form at 11pm gets a reply before a human sees it. Triggers are opt in at the Start node and existing API runs continue unchanged. You can test the stack on a HighLevel AI plan.

Outbound calling consent checks used to cover forms only. The audit now scans surveys, appointment forms and calendars, chat widgets, and Facebook lead forms, flags which assets carry compliant consent language, and applies corrected text in bulk with one click. Facebook lead forms appear in the results but must be updated on Facebook itself.

You get one view of consent status across every capture asset, and contacts who opted in through a survey, booking, or chat widget now count as consented for outbound calling, widening the callable list without adding compliance risk. Our voice AI guide covers the calling stack, and the Voice AI product page lists current capabilities.

Marketplace Apps Get Real Version Control

The edit live approach is retired. Apps now carry explicit versions moving through Draft, In Review, Live, Deprecated, and Disapproved states, and a Live version is immutable, so shipping a change means publishing a new one. Semantic versioning is enforced, and an app is capped at three versions with one open Draft.

Installed apps show an Update button when a new version goes Live, release notes appear before upgrading, major updates need confirmation, and configuration survives the upgrade. Removals require three days notice, after which installs on that version are uninstalled. For agencies running client stacks on marketplace apps, that removes the risk of an app changing overnight.

Group SMS Attachments and Honest DND Logs

Group SMS threads now send and receive attachments, with images and files rendered inline so context stays in the conversation. For a team coordinating with a client in one thread, that is one fewer tool to switch into.

Do Not Disturb logging got honest too. A status change made by an automation is labeled as set by workflow rather than by the customer, while manual changes still show as contact level actions. Diagnosing why a contact stopped receiving messages is far quicker when the log names the cause. No setup is required.

Faster Local SEO Setup, Cleaner Affiliate Records

Adding a Local SEO project no longer depends on a name search finding the right match. You can add a business by name, by Google Place ID, or by Google Maps business URL, with auto suggestions on the first two and tooltips explaining where to find each value. Multi location onboarding hits the correct listing first time far more often.

Affiliate Manager got a related data fix. When one email exists as separate CRM records across products, admins can reassign an affiliate to the correct record, with guardrails against broken mappings. Attribution and commission reporting depend on that link. Bulk options come later.

Quiet Infrastructure Work You Will Feel

The Model Context Protocol layer, which lets an AI actually book an appointment or tag a contact rather than describe doing it, moved from static contract files to a dynamic API driven system. New tools pass an automated quality review, and custom tools must clear a functional test before activation, which cuts the odds of a bot claiming it completed an action that failed. Agencies can manage custom tools programmatically and group them by team.

The chat widget also got quicker, with load improvements reported at 3.2x, 3.9x, and 6.2x on the optimized paths, so fewer visitors leave before the chat opens.

Brewing in Labs

WhatsApp messaging in the new Conversations interface now supports captions on media, attachments pulled from Media Storage, and the full WhatsApp Business API file type list: images to 5MB, video and audio to 16MB, and documents including txt, xlsx, and pptx to 100MB. Fixes landed for media duplicating on replies, broken thumbnails, and filenames arriving as Untitled. Setup context lives in our WhatsApp guide.

The CRM redesign advanced too. Contact Detail gained stronger contrast, clearer empty field markers, opportunities under Actions on a clickable card, an engagement score beside the contact name, and a direct delete icon. Conversations gained activity logs with pipeline and stage context, larger icons, a clearer bulk select flow, and a bigger snippet selector. Both sit behind the CRM Redesign toggle in Labs.

Smaller Improvements Worth Noting

  • Media Editor fixes. Edited images keep their original resolution, transparent PNGs stay transparent, and the bug that turned images black after flip, emoji, and save is fixed.
  • Calendar Schedules APIs are now available with full documentation.
  • Smarter knowledge base search in the Workflow AI Assistant.
  • SaaS billing and subscription improvements for reseller accounts.
  • Support AI data enhancements behind in product help responses.
  • Platform security enhancements and a Spanish language Social Planner course in the community library.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the new Opportunity Changed operators break my existing workflows?

No. Existing triggers keep the previous Equals behavior by default, so current automations run as before. Has Changed and Has Changed To apply only where you select them, so you can convert one workflow at a time.

Do I need to rebuild my agents to use Agent Studio triggers?

No. The release is additive and non breaking. API invoked agents keep working, and a trigger activates only once you add it to an agent's Start node, so you can pilot event driven execution on one agent first.

What happens to an installed app when its version is deprecated?

The publisher must give at least three days notice. On that date the version is removed and every install still on it is uninstalled automatically, so treat the Update prompt as a deadline.
